Susquehanna Seducer Series
Smallmouth bass came cruising down along the ledges in the water, searching for baitfish. Their dorsal fins threw glints of sunlight as they pierced the surface of the skinny water. Periodically there was a rush and a swirl, as one of the fish zeroed in on its prey.
I stood in the shallow water watching, rod in hand, waiting for the fish to move within casting range. Whenever one did, I tossed my Susquehanna Seducer Jig out to it. The result was inevitable - every single fish took the jig. It was a wonderful day on the North Branch Susquehanna River.
Lure selection, whether for fly, jig, soft-plastics, or other conventional tackle, is a very personal thing, based on a combination of knowledge, intuition, and past experience. Just take a glimpse at all of my products here on the JJ’s website. It reveals that literally over thirty plus patterns have been devised, all with the same purpose - to entice a fish into striking.

10/18/10 Per Lance Dunham: “Where should I start? The water was up and dirty and the odds of this happening were pretty high but...... We caught 70 fish today with 4 walleye and one small musky in the mix. I caught my first 5 on the Pumpkin Grubber so I put on the Susquehanna Seducer prototype from JJ's Jigs in chartreuse and lost the darn thing on the second cast! Then I put on the same thing with the black head, black & Brown thorax and brown tail and hells bells look out! My next 19 bass and a walleye came on this jig. It's a winner! I wish I had more to share with my clients! And so did they! Now the best yet! Out of the 70 fish caught there were 65 smallies and out of that 41 were over 15" up to 18 1/2"!!!! “

Barred Chartruese Susquehanna Seducer - For dirty water visibility and walleye attractor colors
Do all these patterns work? Most definitely. Does the angler need a barge to carry all of the baits and lures you need on the river? Most definitely not. Where you live and what you fish for most of the time will color your choice of jigs, of course. In spite of this, some jigs are so universal in their appeal to gamefish of all types that they need to be carried by almost all anglers. The Susquehanna Seducer is one of those universal patterns that works everywhere, for all types of gamefish, in all water conditions.
There is an expression used by scientists, Occam's razor. The idea is that if there are two theories, each of which plausibly explains a phenomenon, the one which explains it more simply and elegantly is probably the correct one. Occam's razor explains my approach to the creation of the Susquehanna Seducer Jigs - keep it simple.

White and Grey Susquehanna Seducer - in the Shad, Cisco, Alewife baitfish colors
An excellent big fish fly, the Susquehanna Seducer is effective when big gamefish are willing to strike a suggestive rather than realistic pattern. Because of the many hackles radiating out from the palmered shank, and its long undulating tail. The tails act like miniature outriggers giving a natural action while the palmered body adds both color and movement, as well as, creating lots of fish attracting vibrations when stripping in.

Grizzly Brown and Black Susquehanna Seducer - The #1 color scheme for bass
This pattern has many strengths going for it. When drawn through the water, the hackle body provides enough size to move some water, thereby attracting attention. Yet when paused, the palmered hackles cause the fly to settle more slowly, thus suspending it in the water column and making it ideal for that 'alive' look. The soft presentation and the ability to hold the jig almost stationary in front of a fish can make it so tantalizingly seductive that it is irresistible. For fishing in weedy areas, a weed guard is added. For fishing deeper in the water column, try a larger sized jig head.
Per Lance Dunham:
10/19/10 - "I used the new Susquehanna Seducer from JJ's Jigs . I caught 26 more fish on the Seducer today wich makes a total of 45 total fish on this one hair jig lure, a good testament to it's durability."
10/20/10 - "I used the Susquehanna Seducer again for a time and caught an additional 15 fish on that same lure which now makes a total of 60 (a new record for me with a hair jig) fish caught on it. Astounding! I really recomend the Black head, Black/brown thorax, with the brown and gold tinsel tail. A dynamite hair jig!"

Grizzly Red and White Susquehanna Seducer - Attractor colors for "toothy critters"
NEW! - Due to customer demand - A Grizzly Green & Olive Susquehanna Seducer!
This coloration is extremely popular with anglers on the Mainstem & West Branch Susquehanna River.
The jig's design makes it very durable. It can take the punishment of big game fish, even toothy critters, over and over without the need to put on a new jig after each fish. That's not to say it's indestructible, just that a seducer can usually last a longer time than some other more delicate baits like soft plastics. Seducers take fish everywhere. Fresh or salt, bay or ocean or lake, day or night, the seducer is effective!
