Our "River Knight" Crayfish Flies
- To an angler, what he or she ties on the business end of a fishing line is all important at the moment in time when one contemplates what it might be that will fool the quarry of the day. - A.K. Best
That is the deal, you know; we tie a little something to the end of the line to offer into the watery underworld in hopes that our quarry, a species of interest at the time, will be inspired to grab on and come for a ride. The variety of offerings is as many and varied as the anglers themselves.
Basically, there is something for everyone. Among the mix however, there rise a few favorites, or the cream of the crop you might say, for those of us who have spent a lifetime on the water. It’s JJ’s Specialty Jigs!
In an age of specialty jigs that all the other tackle shops have (too numerous to mention), choosing the right jig is no easy task. The problem is sometimes further complicated by an industry often focused more on appearance, than good design. Far too many anglers are preoccupied with debating the merits of color, eye patterns, hook metallurgy, rigging style, and other considerations. While these are arguable important issues, they are all secondary when it comes time to select the right jig for the right job. It has taken me years to narrow down this selection of jigs. However, with each one of these specialty jigs you will have a definate advantage when the situation presents itself to use one.
This less traveled road of specialty jigs could put you on the path to becoming a significantly better angler. Adding JJ’s specialty jigs to your arsenal can give you the upper hand with finicky fish that have seen way too many spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and wackyworms. Since their introduction, my specialty patterns have become "must have" patterns. Most of our jigs are quite different than the ones in your local bait and tackle store or "Big Box" fishing catalogs.
Hellgrammite Jig Tiger Perch Jig Susquehanna Soft-Hackle Jig

"River King" Crayfish Jig Sculpin Zonker Jig
Most bass lures are vaguely impressionistic of a minnow, a frog, a wounded baitfish you get the idea. JJ’s Specialty Jigs such as the Hellgrammite Jig, Tiger Perch Jig, Susquehanna Sott-Hackle Jig, Sculpin Zonker Jig, and the "River King" Crayfish Jig, are modeled after specific crustaceans, immature insect larve/pupa, and amphibians. These jigs are used to key into very specific food sources that the gamefish have been accustomed to feeding on during the fishing season. They are not flashy with glitter or unatural paint, on the contrary, they have the natural colorations of the real fry, bugs, and baitfish that the jigs resemble.
