Personal Instruction Classes

Learn to flyfish or improve on your basic skills and open up a world of excitement.  It's easy and fun.  In just an hour or two, you learn casting skills, flytying, or tacklecraft from some of the area's most knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructors.  All the while you enjoy spectacular settings such as the Schrader Creek, North Branch Susquehanna River, or the Lycoming Creek.  The best part is, you can take your new skills to fish anywhere in the world, for brook trout or bass in your hometown, to bonefish in Belize. 

At JJ’s Jigs our mission is about quality products and personal service to YOU, our customer.  That being said, there are times when the best way to learn is one-on-one with an instructor. For those of you who would like serious personal instruction, the opportunity is here with our personal instruction classes. Most of our personal instruction classes are set up for a minimum time of one hour sessions. Topics of our classes can range from basic fly fishing, beginners fly casting, tacklecraft, and beginners fly tying.  If any adult signs up for any personal instruction class you will receive a $10 gift certificate toward the purchase of any of our regular priced merchandise

Our personal instruction flytying, fly casting, and tacklecraft classes can be held at your home for your convenience or acess to private waters (for flycasting only) for the optimum experience (within a 50 mile radius of Towanda, PA). Our personal instruction classes are priced fairly and promise to be a wonderful learning experience. All classes are by appointment only, in order to fit your time schedule and Dave’s schedule as well. Please contact JJ’s Jigs and ask for Dave or Karin.  Classes could vary in session time and frequency depending on the course topic and student need. 

Personal instructional classes are designed for one person at $60 an hour; however we can accommodate two students for an additional $25 per session.  I will give free lessons to children from ages 5 to 16 years of age.  (I've taught both of my boys how to flyfish and have learned how to make it fun!)

Personal Instruction Classes: Basic Fly Tying Class 
These personal classes are for new and novice students who are tying flies for the first time  or need help with the basics of flytying. Students will learn the sound fundamentals of tying your own fishing flies.  Basics techniques in tying wet flies, nymphs, and streamers will be covered. This is a serious "hands on" class and not a show and tell affair. Men, Women and Children (ages 10 and above) are welcome to schedule a class. Students who wish to register must do so by pre-paying the class fee at time of registration. Our main objective is to have plenty of fun and at the same time, learn essential skills in fly tying.  The curriculum of Basic Fly Tying Class includes Introduction to Basic Fly Tying and will start students off with the basics (Proper use of tying tools, tying techniques, material selection, tying simple fly patterns).   Tools, Tying Materials, Vise will be supplied for use if needed.


Personal Instruction Classes: Beginners Tackle Craft  
Leader Building, Basic Knot Tying, and Line Rigging.  Fly line, leader building materials,  and tippet can be supplied for use if necessary.  


Personal Instruction Classes: Basic Fly Casting   
Here at JJ’s we want you to enjoy the sport of fishing and constantly strive to excell at it.  We are pleased to offer personal beginners fly casting instruction for students to newly learn or improve their skills with a fly rod.  Unlike many of the crowded "free" classes that are offered by fly shops, when you take a lesson with JJ's Jigs you will never be put into a class with other people.  You deserve individualized one-on-one attention!  Trust me, flycasting is NOT hard... it just looks that way!  I can have you fly casting in just one session.  If you’re interested scheduling a beginners casting lesson, please  contact JJ’s Jigs and sign up for a class. All classes are by appointment only. Rods,reels,and lines can be supplied for use if necessary.  
  

Personal Instruction Appointments and Policy:  All personal instruction must be scheduled and paid in advance of the appointment date/time. Classes that are scheduled and paid are non-refundable. Students who choose to cancel a personal instruction appointment may re-schedule up to two months following the original instruction date or forfeit the instructional fee. The Instructors have the right to cancel class with advance notice, and classes will be re-scheduled at the first opportunity that the instructor and student can meet again.  Personal Instruction Appointment fees are subject to change without notice. Fees paid in advance via JJ’s Gift Certificates will hold for 6 months from original date of issue, after which fees may be subject to rate increases
